Gov't Allots W24 Bln to Space Projects

The government has allocated 24 billion won for 17 space-related research projects it will pursue to help develop the nation's space industry.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said on Monday that it selected the six core technologies and eleven university laboratory research projects in a recent meeting of a space technology committee.

The six projects are aimed at developing core space technologies to produce lighter launch vehicles, infrared space sensors and next-generation data processing systems.

The laboratory projects will seek to develop rocket fuel, heat-resistant materials, spectroscopes and unmanned space exploration vehicles.

The announcement comes following the nation's failure to successfully put a satellite into orbit last Tuesday via its "Naro" rocket.
