'Investigation into Naro Failure to Take 1 Month'

Russian technicians that participated in the development of South Korea’s first space rocket, the Naro-1, say it will take about a month to determine why the rocket failed to put a satellite into orbit on Tuesday.

The Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, which produced the rocket’s first-stage engine, stressed on Friday the need to conduct a more thorough investigation.

The center said that although the main reason for the failure appears to be due to the delayed separation of a fairing covering the satellite, there could be other contributing factors.

Starting next month, the Russian agency plans to team up with Korean technicians to launch an investigation into the Naro-1 launch.

The agency said that the results of the investigation will be used to better prepare for another launch of the Naro, which is currently under development.
