No Contact Made with Satellite Launched by Naro

A satellite research agency says it has failed to make contact with a satellite launched by the country's first space rocket.

The Naro blasted off on Tuesday but overshot its intended target, resulting in the satellite being put into space in an unknown location.

The Satellite Technology Research Center said it was unable to pick up the beacon signal transmitted by the Science and Technology Satellite-Two early Wednesday because it could not determine the satellite’s exact orbital trajectory.

The center says it will continue to use its communications antenna to try to detect any signals from the satellite, although the chances are slim due to its unknown location.

An official at the agency said that if all efforts fail to track the satellite at home, the agency will use data provided by the North American Aerospace Defense Command to determine its exact location.
