Naro Rocket to Blast off at 5pm Wed.

South Korea’s first space rocket will be launched Wednesday at 5 p.m.

In a news conference at the Naro Space Center in South Jeolla Province, Vice Science and Technology Minister Kim Jung-hyun said the launch time for the “Naro” rocket was finalized during a Wednesday meeting of launch committee officials. The participants of the meeting decided to proceed with the rocket launch as scheduled given the favorable weather conditions.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology says the injection of fuel and oxidation agents will begin at 3 p.m. and the automatic countdown will start at 4:45 p.m. The first-stage engine will be ignited three-point-eight seconds before the launch of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-One (KSLV-1).

Some 19-hundred experts from 15 security agencies have been mobilized to oversee conditions on land, sea and in the air prior to and during the liftoff.
