The nation’s under-19 female soccer team lost to Japan 2-1 in the finals of the Asian Football Confederation under-19 Women’s Championship on Wednesday.

Japan opened the scoring in the first half of the final match held in Wuhan, China.

South Korea tied it up with a goal on a penalty shot by Ji So-yun in the 22nd minute of the second half.

Japan then scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute of the second half.

Despite Korea’s failure to win the regional championship, the nation has obtained a ticket to the FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Germany in July next year.

North Korea came in third by defeating China 1-0, also securing a ticket to Germany for the FIFA World Cup.
