Gov't to Pick Site for High-tech Medical Cluster

The site to house a high-tech medical cluster will be announced Monday, with ten provincial governments competing in the bidding.

The Health, Welfare and Family Affairs Ministry says a 60-member team of experts on medical services, land planning, and two other areas deliberated the selection through Sunday. The winner will be announced at a meeting of the cluster project committee Monday.

Think tanks specializing in the development of new drugs and medical equipment will be concentrated in the cluster. The mega state-funded project will have a budget of 5.6 trillion won through 2038.

Candidate areas include Osong in North Chungcheong Province, Daegu, the Daedeok Innopolis district of Daejeon, and Wonju in Gangwon Province.
