South Korea swimmer Park Tae-hwan has narrowly advanced to the second round of the 200-meter freestyle competition at the World Championships in Rome.

Park finished third in his group with a time of one minute 46 seconds 53 and eighth overall during the Monday preliminary.

Park grabbed a silver medal in the Beijing Olympics last year with his personal best of one minute 44 seconds 85.
