Operation of Arirang Two May be Extended by 2 Years

The operation of Arirang Two multipurpose satellite will likely to be extended for two years.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) said Monday that it is considering extending the operation of Arirang Two by at least two years as it is smoothly operating in every aspect by receiving and processing instructions properly.

Since its launch in July 2006 from Russia, the satellite has photographed over 18-thousand images and earned 22 million dollars through exports of over six-thousand images to foreign organizations.

The institute expectes the satellite will be able to operate normally until after July 2011, when a planned two-year extension period ends.
