New Security Center to Counter Cyber Attacks

The Strategy and Finance Ministry will set up a center this year to systematically counter cyber attacks on financial and economic policymaking bodies.

The center will coordinate security-related tasks with major organizations including the Bank of Korea and the National Tax Service.

The ministry will also seek to establish a security system within its computer network to guard against distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS, cyber attacks.

A ministry official said the center's setup will be moved up due to increasing hacker attacks targeting confidential economic information.

The center will also enable a comprehensive and systemic government response to cyber attacks by establishing a unified control system with related organizations such as the Bank of Korea, the tax office, and the Financial Services Commission.
