Korean Judoka Wins Gold at Summer Universiade

Olympic medalist Wang Ki-chun has won a gold medal at the 25th Summer Universiade Belgrade.

Wang secured the gold in judo on Thursday, beating out his Hungarian counterpart in the men’s 73-kilogram division.

In swimming, Chung Du-hee advanced to the final, breaking two Korean records in the process.

In the preliminary match of the men’s 100-meter butterfly stroke, Chung put up a time of 52.88 seconds, besting the Korean record by over three-tenths of a second. In the semifinals, Chung again broke the record to set another Korean record with a time of 52.69 seconds.

In the women’s individual archery competition, Kim Ye-seul racked up 111 points and Kim Yu-mi 110 points as both advanced to the finals.

South Korea ranks third in the total medal standings with 12 gold, seven silver and ten bronze medals.
