Gene Map for Korean Men Completed

A genome map for Korean men has been completed, advancing an era of individually tailored medical treatment.

Seoul National University's genome center said Thursday that researchers from South Korea and the U.S. at the center have succeeded in completely decoding a human’s genome sequence.

The achievement was published in the science journal “Nature” on Thursday.

With the decoding, South Korea has become the world's fourth nation to decipher a human genome map.

If the human gene-mapping technology goes commercial, personal identities can be more easily confirmed and probabilities of developing cancer or heart disease can be calculated more accurately.
