Korea Wins Imagine Cup Embedded Category

Team Korea has taken the top honors in the embedded development category at the 2009 Imagine Cup, dubbed the information technology Olympics.

The competition, sponsored by Microsoft, wrapped up on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, after a five-day run.

The Korean team "Wafree" beat China and Ukraine Tuesday in the embedded category with their system to help farmers breed insects for food.

Students 16 and older from around the world are eligible to compete in what has become the world's largest software competition.

In last year's Imagine Cup in Paris, Korea won in the short film category.

Three-hundred thousand students from 124 countries competed this year in nine different categories.

Microsoft established the international tournament in 2003.
