Green Cross to Produce Potential H1N1 Flu Vaccine

A South Korean pharmaceutical company will begin producing a potential vaccine for the new H1N1 flu on Thursday.

The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) said Green Cross will produce a prototype vaccine, a step toward commercializing its vaccine product.

The pharmaceutical company will manufacture 390-thousand doses, which is enough to vaccinate 195-thousand patients.

Meanwhile, the influenza center of the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said six new cases of the Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 have been confirmed in South Korea. Two infected individuals entered the nation via Indonesia while four others came from the Philippines, Canada and Europe.

The new confirmations have brought the total number of reported H1N1 flu cases in South Korea to 216.
