The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has decided to adopt electronic protection gear to strengthen the game's fairness.

The international governing body for the sport said the electronic system will be officially introduced at the next World Taekwondo Championships scheduled for October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The federation said it tested the system at the WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan and found the number of disputes over referee decisions decreased significantly.

A video replay system will also be introduced to help minimize judging controversies.
