The largest auto racing event in Asia, the Super GT series, will be held in Korea next year.
Representative Director Masaaki Bandoh of the series' governing body, the GT Association (GTA), announced the proposed plan during the fourth round of Super GT games held Sunday in Malaysia.
He said the association has been considering holding the series in countries other than Japan and Malaysia for a while.
Bandoh said the Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO), which operates the Formula One championship in Korea, informed his agency that it's willing to host the Super GT before the Formula One race set to open in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, in October of next year.
He said the two sides are discussing the date and other details.
If the Super GT is held in Korea, it will be a test bed to assess track facilities and racing popularity before the country plays host to the Formula One championship for the first time.
