Park Ji-sung has come through for the national soccer team again versus Iran.
The Manchester United midfielder Wednesday night scored the tying goal in the 81st minute, salvaging a 1-1 tie with visiting Iran in the final 2010 World Cup qualifier for both teams.
Korea claimed Group B with 16 points and finished unbeaten for the first time in two decades in Asian qualifiers. Iran put itself at the mercy of the result of the Saudi Arabia-North Korea qualifier, but still had an outside chance to go through.
Park had also scored the tying goal February 11th against Iran in their first game of the final Asian qualifying round.
Wednesday night, Iran opened the scoring in the 51st minute. Striker Masoud Shojaye and Korean defender Kim Dong-jin both leaped to head the ball, which fell in the net. FIFA recorded the score as an own goal by Kim.
Korea then had a golden opportunity to tie in the 66th minute, but Park Chu-young's curving free kick hit the left post.
That set the stage for Korea captain Park, who got into the penalty box past two Iranian defenders and fired a left-footed goal with just nine minutes left.
Cho Won-hee had a chance to give Korea the win late in the game, but fumbled the ball in the box.
