Gov't Approves Launch of 1st Space Rocket

The government has approved the launch of the nation’s first rocket --- the “Naro."

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said the National Space Committee on Tuesday approved the flight plan submitted by the state-run Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

The committee said it has reviewed all aspects of the launch, including the goals of the project, the safety of the rocket and insurance for the launch.

KARI said its technicians are in the process of inspecting the Naro.

The launch is tentatively scheduled for July 30th from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province. But the final launch date will not be set until next month after weather conditions are taken into consideration.
