National museum to hold special exhibit to mark FIFA WC

The National Museum of Korea said Friday that it will hold a special exhibit of 140 paintings depicting everyday life in the ancient Chosun Dynasty to mark the 2002 World Cup finals co-hosted by Korea and Japan. The special exhibit, which will be the first of its kind since 1961, will showpiece the finest work works of art between the 16th through the 19th century. The paintings will be loaned from private collectors, 10 private museums and art galleries including the Kansong. The event is also designed to show foreign visitors who are expected to come to Korea during the FIFA World Cup finals the beauty and refinement of Korean art. The museum said, during the four month exhibition period, visitors will also be able to view numerous pieces that have been designated as state treasures for their aesthetic beauty and rarity.
