Korean figure skating sensation Kim Yu-na has been named an honorary ambassador for PyeongChang's third bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The Gangwon Provincial Government appointed Kim in a ceremony Tuesday.

Kim told a news conference that she hopes Pyeongchang is successful in its bid to host the 2018 Winter Games as she believes that it could contribute to the development of domestic winter sports. She said the Pyeongchang area has a number of beautiful sights to offer the world.

The iconic star is expected to represent South Korea and Pyeongchang on the world stage and participate in showcase events as part of the international campaign until the host city is announced in 2011.
