The organizing committee of the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu says it has appointed former Daegu Mayor Cho Hae-nyoung as the committee’s joint chair.

The committee held a fifth general meeting on Tuesday and appointed Cho to the post.

Cho said he will do his best to serve his hometown by using his government experience.

The former mayor will officially take the seat after his appointment is approved by the minister of culture, sports and tourism.
