S.Korea Develops Wave-measuring Buoy

The nation has developed a floating buoy capable of measuring the height of ocean waves in real time.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said it has developed a floating buoy with a production cost nearly half the price the government has previously had to spend to import the buoys.

The weather forecaster said the device performed extremely well in a test comparing it to imported wave-monitoring devices.

The administration expects the homegrown buoy will help the nation predict wave patterns more precisely, given that it measures the height of waves every second and transmits the data real time via satellite.
