Interpol to Back Security Preparations for World Cup

The 17th Interpol Asian Regional Conference concluded its four-day session Thursday by unanimously adopting a recommendation calling for immediate steps to support security efforts of the two host countries in the upcoming 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan, the National Police Agency said in a press release. The conference, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka February 18th thru 21st, was attended by 31 Asian nations, eight observer countries from Europe and North America, and two observer international organizations. The resolution said that immediate steps should be taken to support the National Police Authorities in Korea and Japan in their security preparations for the World Cup to be held from May 31 to June 30, 2002.
