Anger over Kim DS's disqualification leads to cyber protest

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense's home page (www.mnd.go.kr) is being flooded by bulletin board postings from angry netizens who are furious about the controversial decision to strip Kim Dong-sung of the gold medal for the 1500-meter short track in the ongoing Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In the race in question Wednesday, Kim finished first but the gold medal went to Apolo Anton Ohno of the United States after chief referee James Hewish of Australia ruled that Kim had illegally blocked Ohno's path. Meanwhile, officials said the International Skating Union (ISU) on Thursday dismissed the South Korean Winter Olympic team's complaint in connection with the disqualification of the Korean short-track speed skater in the men's 1,500-meter final Wednesday. The ISU, after reviewing the complaint filed earlier in Salt Lake City, Utah, sent a letter to the Korean team that rejects the complaint as regulations do not allow for the judgement call of a referee to be overturned.
