President Kim Dae-jung encouraged South Koreans Wednesday to do everything possible to ensure the successful co-hosting of the FIFA World Cup finals this summer and for businesses to reap the maximum economic benefits possible. In a speech marking the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony, Kim said the international football festival was a chance to promote national prosperity. Kim said South Korea will be able to join the ranks of the world's leaders if it maximizes the World Cup's full potential. He highlighted the economic benefits created by the tournament, particularly the drastic rise in production and foreign investment as well as hundreds of thousands of new jobs. He also called for increased efforts to accommodate foreign visitors to the country during the May 31st through June 30th tournament.
