A domestic company has developed a drug which could possibly be used to treat diabetic neuropathy.

Korean biotechnology company Viromed said Monday that its new drug has secured approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for clinical tests.

About 50 percent of all diabetic patients experience some form of neuropathy.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said the government invested eight billion won in the venture firm through a science fund, adding that it is very rare for a domestic firm to receive FDA approval out of the U.S. for clinical tests.
