The 90th National Winter Games have opened at Pyeongchang’s Yongpyong Resort in Gangwon Province.

Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Yu In-chon, Korea Sports Council President Lee Yun-taek, Gangwon Province Governor Kim Jin-sun and the athletes were all in attendance for the opening ceremony.

Some three-thousand-500 athletes from 15 cities and provinces nationwide will participate in the games set to take place till Friday.

Athletes will be competing for a total of 238 gold medals in five events: skating, skiing, biathlon, curling and ice hockey.
