Hynix Develops New DRAM Chip

Hynix Semiconductor says it has developed the world's first one gigabit DDR-3 DRAM using 44 nanometer technology and will begin mass production in the third quarter.

Hynix says the chip is compatible with products by Intel, which will test for recognition of Hynix's module products.

Hynix says the productivity of the latest DRAM is 50 percent higher than existing 54 nanometer technology and expects it to become its staple product once market conditions improve.

A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter.
