KMA to Conduct Snowmaking Experiments

Written: 2009-02-05 14:57:40Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Due to the severity of the drought currently hitting the nation, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is planning to begin experimenting with artificial snow.

The weather agency on Thursday said that aircraft will soon begin spraying cloud condensation nuclei, or “cloud seeds,” in areas over the Taebaek Mountains, in an effort to spur precipitation.

The administration successfully conducted a similar experiment last March in Daegwalleyong, Gangwon Province.

If the snowmaking process is deemed practical and effective, it will be used to create artificial snow to help mitigate the drought in the mountainous areas of Gangwon Province.
