3 Nations Eye Joint Radio Telescope Network

South Korea, China and Japan are reportedly boosting efforts to build the world's largest deep-space radio telescope array.

The English online edition of China's People’s Daily said that astronomers from the three nations have integrated 19 radio telescopes that cover an area of about six-thousand kilometers in diameter in East Asia.

The report says the mammoth radio telescope network will help unveil the mysteries of outer space, including the structure of the Milky Way Galaxy and supermassive black holes.

A high-resolution and high-precision observation technique, known as Very Long Baseline Interferometer, will be used for accurate positioning and fine structure research on celestial bodies.

Space observation using the international astrometry network is expected to start next year. The project will combine three Korean, four Chinese and 12 Japanese telescopes.
