Private Companies to be Allowed to Provide Weather Forecasts

Private companies will likely be allowed to produce and disclose weather forecasts independently from next year.

The new chief of Korea Meteorological Administration, Chun Byung-seong, said in his inaugural speech on Tuesday that his agency will disclose weather forecasts to companies in order to provide high quality weather forecasts to the public.

To that end, the weather agency will seek a revision to related laws this year.

The administration also plans to hire foreign weather experts in the first half of the year to provide more accurate weather forecasts.
