Korea’s national athletes began training for 2009 on Thursday.

The Korea Sports Council held a ceremony marking the start of training for the year at the Korea National Training Center, where officials and athletes of 13 sports were present.

President Lee Yun-taek of the council requested that the athletes train with a sense of duty and responsibility to build on the accomplishments from the Beijing Olympics last year.

South Korea finished seventh at the Beijing Summer Games.
