Thursday Marks Coldest Day of Winter

Temperatures plunged to 20 degrees below zero in some inland areas Thursday, making it the coldest day of winter for some regions.

Morning lows fell to minus 20-point-five degrees Celsius in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang Province, 19-point-four degrees in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, and 19 degrees in the Cheorwon and Gangwon provinces.

The morning low for Seoul stood at eleven-point-two degrees Celsius while the mercury bottomed out at six-point-one degrees in Busan.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that the afternoon highs in Seoul aren’t expected to top zero degrees.

Cloudy skies are expected for most regions on Thursday with one to three centimeters of snow expected in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province later in the day.

The cold spell is expected to ease up on Friday.
