Scientists Develop New Rice

A group of local scientists has developed a new kind of rice that has up to 70 percent more amino acids than existing types.

The Team for Radiation Food Science and Biotechnology under the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute announced the development Thursday, dubbing the rice “Gold Ami-1.”

The team is hoping that the new grain will be utilized by manufacturers worldwide to produce healthier, more nutritious processed foods.
