A group of South Korean researchers says they have identified a gene that causes narcolepsy, a neurological condition characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness.

The researchers at the Catholic University College of Medicine, jointly with Japan’s University of Tokyo, said that they have discovered the gene linked to the loss of hypocretin, a protein that helps keep the brain awake.

The researchers expect their finding will help in the development of a cure.
