Cold Spell Hits Nation

A cold snap has hit the nation, pushing temperatures down to about 15 degrees below zero in the central inland areas.

Morning lows on Monday fell to minus 17 degrees Celsius in Daegwallyeong, eastern Gangwon Province, and minus eleven degrees in Seoul. Southern cities also recorded sub-zero temperatures. Gwangju posted minus five degrees and Busan minus four-point-five.
Much of the central region remained below zero throughout Monday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration says the cold spell will most likely continue on through Thursday.

Heavy snow fell in the southwestern coastal areas and Jeju Island. A dry weather advisory is in place for Seoul and parts of the Gangwon and Gyeongsang provinces.
