Kim Fails to Win 3rd Straight GP Final

Korea's top figure skater Kim Yu-na failed to win her third straight figure skating Grand Prix Final Saturday evening. She ended up two points short of her Japanese rival Mao Asada, finishing in second place.

The 18-year-old Kim came out on top in Friday's short program competition. Combining that tally with points earned in the female single free-skating event on Saturday, she finished with a combined score of 186.35.

The Grand Prix Final was hosted by the International Skating Union and the Korean broadcaster SBS and was held in Goyang city, north of Seoul.

Kim was competing to become only the second female figure skater to win a third straight Grand Prix title following Russia's Irina Slutskaya.

As one of the semifinalists, Kim will perform in a gala event starting Sunday at 2 p.m.
