A cold wave alert has been issued for Seoul and the central region of the nation.

Friday morning lows dipped to minus seven degrees Celsius in Seoul. But the Korea Meteorological Administration said the wind chill factor made it feel about minus 16 degrees. Afternoon highs also remained below zero.

A heavy snow alert has been issued for the Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces where more than ten centimeters of snow has fallen on Friday morning.

In the western coastal areas, ferry services were interrupted due to strong winds and high waves.

Even colder weather is forecast for the weekend with nationwide temperatures expected to drop below minus ten degrees.
