Korean researchers have succeeded in restoring lost hearing in animals using stem cells.

Dr. Jang Su-jeong of Chonnam National University told a meeting of the Society of Neuroscience that her team used stem cells from human bone marrow to restore hearing in guinea pigs.

Jang said they grew the stem cells into neuron-like cells and transplanted them into the inner ears of the guinea pigs. Some of the animals' hearing appeared to have been restored three months later.
