As the 10th Conference of Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands is nearing a close in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, Romania is emerging as the leading candidate to host the next conference.

According to the Environment Ministry and organizers of this year's conference, Romania's announcement in June on its bid to host the 11th convention was welcomed with big applause.

The Eastern European country's bid will likely be accepted at the main session Tuesday.

The six continents take turns hosting the conference every year. A host country is usually determined by a unanimous agreement at a conference without a vote.
