'Korean Temperatures to Rise 5 Degrees by 2080'

A Korean professor says temperatures on the Korean Peninsula will rise by five degrees Celsius and precipitation by 17 percent by the year 2080.

Chonbuk National University Professor Lee Byeon-hun made the projection at a Friday symposium marking the first anniversary of the National Institute of Biological Resources.

He said that temperatures on the peninsula more than doubled the global average temperature growth of the past 100 years, and given the pace, the temperature will be five degrees higher in 2080.

He says average rainfall will also rise 17 percent while rice producton drops 15 percent.

The professor says climate change will have great impact on human health, industries and tourism in the future and called for thorough national strategy to address the concern.
