Choo Shin-Soo of the Cleveland Indians has been selected as the American League Player of the Month for September.

The South Korean native hit .400 with five homers, five doubles and 24 runs batted in (RBI) this month. He finished the season hitting .309 with 14 homers and 66 RBI in only 94 games.

Choo is the first South Korean to be chosen as the player of the month in the American League.

In 2003, Choi Hee-seop, who played for the Chicago Cubs, was selected as the rookie of the month.
