Doctors have successfully performed a landmark liver transplant.

A medical team at Seoul National University Hospital removed the liver from a woman who had died of a cerebral hemorrhage and transplanted it into a man suffering from liver cirrhosis.

Up until this operation, liver transplant procedures required the liver be collected from a brain dead patient whose heart was still beating.

Doctors say it was the first such liver transplant operation performed in Korea.
