South Korea is aiming to win a record number of gold medals in the Beijing Olympics after already achieving its initial goal of winning ten golds.
The nation is also on pace to reach its goal of finishing within the top ten in the medal count as of Thursday, three days before the end of the world sporting event.
Earlier on Thursday, the national taekwondo team claimed two golds, placing South Korea at seventh place in the medal standings with ten gold, ten silver and six bronze medals.
The nation is hoping to win its highest number of gold medals ever as more taekwondo matches remain to be held, including the women’s 67-kilogram and men’s 80-kilogram events.
South Korea is also hoping to bring home golds in baseball and boxing.
The South won a national record 12 gold medals in both the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
