The International Handball Federation has turned down South Korea’s request to annul the last goal of a semifinal match held between South Korea and Norway in the Beijing Olympics Thursday.
The federation’s Disciplinary Commission said in a statement posted on its Web site Friday that it refused Korea’s protest because the situation in the last second was a correct ruling, consequently confirming the result of the match.
Earlier on Thursday, the Korea Handball Association and the women’s handball team for the Beijing Olympics filed a suit before the international federation over the result of the game.
The handball association and the Korean team protested that Norway's last goal in the match was scored after the end of regulation.
The score of the Korea-Norway handball match stood at 28-28 in the final minute, but the Korean women later lost by one point when the referee credited Norway with a goal scored on their final possession.
The international federation said according to its regulations, an appeal against a ruling can be made to the Disciplinary Commission up to two hours after receipt of the decision.
