The national taekwondo team claimed two golds Thursday in the Beijing Summer Olympics, giving Korea its goal of ten golds in the Games.
At the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium, Lim Su-jeong beat Turkey's Azize Tanrikulu, 1-0, to win the women's 57-kilogram class. The gold was Korea's third consecutive in the weight division since taekwondo was made an official Olympic event in 2000.
For the men, Son Tae-jin (pictured) eked out a last-second win over Mark Lopez of the United States, 3-2, in the 68-kilogram division .
Korea achieved its goal of ten gold medals in the Olympics, but also seeks a top ten finish in the medal count.
Not so fortunate was the women's handball team, which lost to Norway, 29-28, in the final seconds.
Moon Pil-hee and An Jung-hwa scored two goals to tie the score at 28 with seconds remaining, but Norway's Gro Hammerseng quickly fired home the winning score.
Korea's coach protested that Hammerseng's shot failed to cross the line before time expired, but to no avail.
Korea's women's handball team will play for the bronze Saturday.
