The mixed badminton doubles team of Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung has won Korea's first Olympic gold in the event in 12 years and the eighth for Korea in the Beijing Olympics.
The duo beat out world champions Liliyana Natsir and Nova Widianto of Indonesia in straight sets, 21-11 and 21-17, in just 37 minutes, and earned Korea's only gold medal in badminton in Beijing.
The last Korean mixed doubles badminton team to win gold was Kim Dong-moon and Kil Young-ah in 1996.
In women's basketball, Korea advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Latvia, 72-68. Park Jung-eun led Korea with 17 points, hitting five of 11 three-point shots.
In baseball, Lee Seung-yeop drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as Korea edged China 1-0 to stay unbeaten in Olympic play. Korea secured a semifinals berth with the win.
As of Sunday night, Korea had 8 gold medals, 9 silver and 5 bronze, ranking sixth place in gold medal count. China holds the most gold medals with 35, followed by the United States with 19 gold.
