Gold Drought Continues for Women's Badminton

The Olympic women's doubles badminton team, comprised of Lee Kyung-won and Lee Hyo-jung, have settled for the silver medal, extending their country's gold medal drought in the event to 16 years.

The duo on Friday lost 21-15 and 21-13 to China's Yu Yang and Du Jing, denying Korea its first gold medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games.

The Lee duo was ranked fourth in the world, but lost to the third-ranked Chinese team, who enjoyed a raucous home crowd for support. Korea, however, did make it into the women's badminton finals for the first time since 1996.

China won its fourth straight Olympic title in the event.
