Olympic Soccer Team Opens with Draw

Korea played Cameroon to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening in their opening soccer game of Group D in the Beijing Summer Olympics.

At Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Center Stadium, the engimatic Park Chu-young gave Korea the lead in the 67th minute. His free kick from the left side looked like a cross to feed a crowd of Korean players, but the ball curved and slipped into the Cameroonian goal for the score.

The lead was short-lived as midfielder Georges Mandjeck shot the ball from inside the penalty box into the upper net in the 72nd minute.

Cameroon's Albert Baning was ejected with just two minutes remaining in injury time, but Korea could not capitalize on the one-man advantage in the waning moments.

Korea will face Group D leader Italy Sunday.
