Dokdo Photo Shot by Satellite Released

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute has unveiled a satellite photo of the Dokdo islets taken by the nation’s multipurpose satellite Arirang-Two.

The image released Friday is the combination of a color image and a black and white image shot on Wednesday morning.

It is the first time an image of the Dokdo islets shot by domestic satellites has been released, though Arirang-One and Arirang-Two have photographed the islets many times.

The Arirang-Two, which currently circles the earth 14 times a day 685 kilometers above the earth's surface, can capture black-and-white images of objects as small as one-meter across. It can also capture color images of objects up to four meters across.
