Korea's First Astronaut Suffering from Minor Injuries

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Wednesday that Korea's first astronaut Yi So-yeon is suffering from minor injuries but shows no serious health problems.

The ministry said the 29-year-old bioengineer is receiving health checkups and pain treatment for back injuries at an Air Force hospital in North Chungcheong Province.

Doctors say Yi is suffering from mild dislocation and bruising of the vertebrae, sustained during a rough return trip from orbit, adding that the injuries do not pose any serious risks to her health.

The ministry says Yi is undergoing physical and drug therapy, coupled with acupuncture.

Doctors plan to reexamine her condition on Friday to determine future treatment plans.
